Castle In the Sky is my second favourtie movie by Myazaki, I used to replay this film every weekend when I was small, the underlying theme of the curse of human strive for technology advancement, weaponizing technology, youthfulness, the greed of human nature and the mythical theme repackaged in the facade of steam-punk aesthetic was enough to make this film a classic. This film is a succession of Myazaki’s early work - Future Boy’s Canon. I wanted to pay tribute to it, hence this is my first painting out of all the convention’s works. It holds significant value to me, it is the birth of a new path in my art career and it is exteremely experimental as it was my first time using gouache.
