Ghost In The Shell (1995)

Mamoru Oshii’s vision of Masamune Shirow’s Ghost In The Shell manga series was, in my opinion, a superior adaptation of the original material. Mamoru masterfully simplified the clustering themes and overwhelming dialogues from the original manga and amplify on the existential questions like what defines a soul, co-existing with A.I., and whether the internet/cybernetworks can make all humans evolve to a ‘hive mind’ race… This anime’s background artists’ draftsmanship and the exaggerated urban form and social context were the first things that I wanted to make an artwork for, the high detail depiction of Motoko’s body in the anime also fascinates my interest in anatomy.
