Porco Rosso

Gouache A3
2022

Porco Rosso is my third favorite movie by Miyazaki. It is a film that shows his love for europe, his hate for war, facism and the pride of men. As this film was released during the civil war in Yugoslavia, Miyazaki’s passion for anti war stories shines through in Gina and Porco’s character… Porco’s pig head and disinterest of his fascist country along with Gina’s disinterest of soldiers and American exceptionalism, set the two characters isolated in a lonely island, symbolising their unconforming nature, yet their cursed fate for being an outsider. I wanted to draw a third perspective on their final goodbye in the movie as a bitter-sweet tribute to Gina and Proco’s fateless love story.
